Weekend Ramblings & Link Love: good bye $100 yearly fee edition

Hope everyone’s having a great weekend so far.  It’s beautifully sunny here in Vancouver and I can’t wait to get outside to enjoy some of that rare sunshine.

I finally got my act together and signed up for a self-directed RRSP Questrade account.  I’m transferring over the BMO investorline RRSP account to Questrade.  I found that I was hesitant to rebalance my portfolio in the BMO Investorline account because of the $29 trading commissions.  Also, I was getting sick of paying the $100 yearly administration fee (that the guy neglected to tell me about when I signed up a few years back) that they charge if your portfolio is less than $25,000.  I’m not even allowed to contribute more than $25,000 in RRSPs because of the pension adjustment I get.  I should have done this a long time ago, oh well- hindsight is always 20-20, right?

LOL I might as well change my middle name to Questrade.  I now have a non-registered margin account, a TFSA account, and an RRSP account with them.  You really can’t beat the $4.95 trades.

And the winner is…

youngandthrifty.ca had a giveaway of the book “Enjoy Your Money; How do Make It, Save It, Invest It, and Give It” by Steve J. Miller. I used random.org and drew the winner of the book giveaway.

And the winner is….Kevin! From Financiallypoor.com. Congrats, Kevin!

  1. Thanks for the link – Questrade rocks!

Now I have to eat…errrr, read that sushi article. :)

@Money Smarts- Questrade DOES kick some serious butt. Sushi does too! If sushi and questrade got together, they’d be this superhuman superpower!

  2. I’m frustrated! Nobody has given me a good enough reason as to why The East Coast is a great place other than the 6 listed in my post.

    Hope all is well!

    Sam

  3. Thank for the mention!

I love sushi too, and I just eat the cheap stuff… I couldn’t imagine if I tried the good stuff…

That book was a good one!

I had BP before the disaster, and it was a great dividend stock… I got out shortly after the disaster happened (luckily)! Feel bad for those that still have the stock! It’s either less than 30 or close to less than 30 now (big ouch)!!! I don’t think I’ll ever buy it again after all of the bad press…

@Money Reasons- Come to Vancouver and try the good AND cheap stuff! (Okay, I’ll get off the Vancouver-good-sushi bandwagon now). They have a restaurant here called Tojo’s and it’s like the most expensive Japanese restaurant in Vancouver.. probably $100 a person including drinks and appetizers etc. Haven’t been, but hear it’s good.

Good for you for getting out on time- it’s so hard to time sometimes… I need to tell myself to do stop losses more often. I don’t think I will buy BP just because of all the bad press they’ve been having, and also because they don’t seem to be a very organized company in the first place… last I heard, they were sacrificing their employee safety as well.
