MBNA Rewards points come quickly and easily via the MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus® Mastercard®. A generous bonus of 10,000 points†† is offered to new cardholders: 5,000 bonus points†† after your first $500 in eligible purchases and 5,000 bonus points†† once enrolled in paperless e-statements (both within the first 90 days). There is also an introductory bonus period where cardholders earn four points†† for every $1 spent on groceries, restaurants, digital media, memberships and household utilities during the first 90 days.

After that the card collects two points per $1 spent in those categories, and one point per $1 on all other eligible purchases. It’s important to note that there’s a $10,000 spending limit annually within each of those enhanced spending categories, after which the accelerated earn rate is reduced to the base rate of one point per $1 for the remainder of the year. Points can be redeemed for merchandise, gift cards, and even cash back against a statement credit, though they get their best value for airfare and other travel-related services like cruise packages and hotels.

The cards’ high earn rates, plus the absence of any annual fee and the inclusion of insurance and protective features, make the MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus® Mastercard® a great rewards option for those loyal to MBNA. Purchases are subject to a 19.99% interest rate. Balance transfers have an interest rate of 22.99%✪ and cash advances are 24.99%.

MBNA’s True Line® Gold Mastercard® credit card offers a low rate of 8.99% on balance transfers, which is a refreshingly low number considering other cards’ 20+% interest. It’s a near guarantee that the rate is lower than what anyone with a balance is currently paying.

Though the card has a small annual fee of $39, the amount of money that an average cardholder will save with the significantly low balance transfer rate will likely pay that back and then some. The interest on purchases is 8.99%, which is great for those who plan on using the card to pay for goods and services. The cash advance rate is a standard 24.99%.

Those who want to save on the often-exorbitant interest rates charged to outstanding credit card balances, but who also prefer a no-fee card as opposed to paying an annual fee, will appreciate MBNA’s True Line® Mastercard® credit card. Identical in many ways to its cousin the MBNA True Line® Gold Mastercard® credit card, the two cards differ in their annual fee and their interest rates. The MBNA True Line® Gold Mastercard® credit card has an annual fee of $39 and a purchase rate of 8.99%, while the MBNA True Line® Mastercard® credit card has an annual fee of $0 and charges 12.99% interest on purchases, along with 12.99% on balance transfers.

This card also has a standard 24.99% cash advance rate, but with the low interest you’d be paying on your credit card balances, the ability to pay low interest on everyday purchases and the lack of an annual fee make this card noteworthy.

You could get a 0% promotional annual interest rate (“AIR”) for 12 months on balance transfers completed within 90 days of account opening (3% Balance Transfer Fee applies, $7.50 minimum).

Some might have trouble reconciling an annual fee for the privilege of earning cash back. This is one reason why cash back cards that have no annual fee are in demand, and MBNA fans will find a solid option for this in the MBNA Smart Cash Platinum Plus® Mastercard®. Slightly different than the MBNA Smart Cash® World Mastercard®, the Platinum version has no income requirement and no annual fee, but accordingly a lower all-purchases cash back rate of 0.5% instead of 1%. The same 5% cash back promotion†† for gas and groceries still applies, as does the $500 per month spending limit.

After the promotion ends the card offers 2% cash back on gas and groceries until spending in those categories reaches $500, just like the MBNA Smart Cash® World Mastercard®, though that earn rate will then be downgraded to the lower 0.5% rate. We recommend cardholders pay $39 for the 1% rate with the MBNA Smart Cash® World Mastercard® instead of $0 for the 0.5% rate with the MBNA Smart Cash Platinum Plus® Mastercard® if they are likely to buy around $8,000 worth of items per year that aren’t gas or groceries.

In addition to the regular purchase rate of 19.99%, balance transfers are 22.99% and cash advances are 24.99%.
